Narrative:
Adorned in sparkling Indian gowns, you can see Rasna helping and praying almost every Sunday, at the local Gurudwara, or Sikh temple. Most think she was born in India, with her dark skin tone, but really she was born in Canada. In Canada, you can find people of every different races and religions. When Rasna first moved to Wake County because of her father’s job, she hated it. “It wasn’t diverse at all! I was the only non-white in my whole class.” Little by little though, Wake County started to change. “Diversity isn’t a rare thing anymore.”
Rasna follows her religion closely, and respects all others. She has never cut her hair in her life. It is a tradition among some Indian women, especially Sikhs, to have very long hair. Rasna is one of the few women in the younger generation to keep this tradition. You can see her busily rushing to plan events at the Gurudwara, such as blood drives, or fundraisers. She is always thinking of ways to contribute to the community around her.
