Narrative, Continued:

The last step for Mike to become healthy was for him to go through chemotherapy. That lasted about a year and in 1993 Mike was completely cancer free. Since then Mike has settled down and enjoys fishing and working with his church. The next accomplishment Mike looks forward to is his retirement from his current job.

Mike appreciates Wake County because of the hospitals. “The hospitals are great because there are a good rescores for people when they get sick.” One concern he has is Wake’s emergency planning, “ it needs a lot of work”.

Narrative:

Mike’s greatest accomplishment was getting through one of the most problematical challenges ever. When Mike was just becoming a man he was faced with the disease of cancer. His family was depressed that one of their five sons had cancer, but being strong Christians they prayed for him to pull through. The first step for him was excruciating surgery to try and get the cancer out. When that failed he didn’t give up hope, he knew that he was going to make it through because he had God on his side. Soon after when the doctors where checking on him they found that the cancer had stopped growing. Mike hoped that everything would improve from that point. He was right, after that he went through a round of eighteen treatments. His family’s prayers were answered and in 1990 there was only one more step until their son was completely healthy.
