Narrative, Continued:

Maria is very happy to be a member of the North Carolina Symphony. “It is very hard to get into your hometown symphony. Usually a musician has to move wherever he or she can get a position.” By being here in Raleigh Maria has the support of her parents and grandfather (when he is not in New York City.) One of Maria’s greatest prides was playing one of her grandfather’s pieces in a concert at Peace College.

Maria really likes Wake County. She enjoys Pullen Park, the pools, and Umstead. She hopes that Wake County and Raleigh City can work out a way to make the Dix property a park.

Narrative:

Maria is a talented violinist, who currently plays in the North Carolina Symphony. She was born in New York but moved to North Carolina when she was four years old. Maria’s grandfather is a professional composer, and he gave Maria her first violin when she was just four. Maria’s grandfather has continued to support her work through the years.

Maria learned to play the violin through the Suzuki method, and through the years always considered practicing a priority much like homework. Maria went to Apex Elementary, Martin Middle, and then Enloe High School. She liked Enloe because they had a great music program and she was able to earn 27 Advanced Placement (AP) credits, which really gave her an advantage in college. After high school she attended the Cleveland Institute of Music, and then went to graduate school at Rice University in Texas.
