Narrative, Continued:

Karen is very active at her church in downtown Cary. She is in the adult choir, teaches children's choir, and volunteers for a community outreach program called Mighty Mondays. Also she has recently composed a song, which she sang in church. Karen is appreciative of the many greenways in Wake County. She enjoys them frequently by herself and with her 2 dogs. Her main concern about living in Wake is the increase of crime. She knows of a friend who lives in her neighborhood and has recently been robbed. Despite this, Karen is for the most part, thankful to live in Wake county.

Narrative:

Although Karen was born in Fairfax, Virginia, she grew up in Maryland about 45 minutes away from the Potomac River. Karen recalls the beauty of this section of Maryland with homes on two acres of land. She studied communication and music at Randolph-Macon Woman’s College, which recently changed name and began accepting men.

In 2002 Karen moved to Wake County for a job as a network engineer. Now she is no longer working with computers, instead she is using her music degree to teach music lessons. She is self-employed and is thoroughly enjoying her job. She teaches flute, piano, and voice from her house in Cary were she lives with her husband and their two dogs, Charlie and Harley. Some of her proudest moments were working with her students and watching them learn and master difficult pieces of music.
