Narrative:
Brittney has been studying Karate since the fourth grade. She began taking Karate classes two nights a week with her father and sister, at a local community center. She originally started taking Karate as a fun activity for her to do with her family, but it became a serious competitive sport. Recently, Brittney’s youngest sister started taking Karate and is already a 3rdque blue belt. Over the years Brittney has competed in many competitions and has earned many awards, including winning a sparring match at the state games. Because she is so advanced, she sometimes competes with adult males. Unfortunately one time she was seriously injured and ended up in the emergency room. During a sparring match with a man, she was kicked in the chest, bruising her sternum. Ever since then she has been careful to wear protective gear. Two years ago Brittney earned her black belt and became an assistant instructor. She continues to take classes and helps in the community by teaching a Karate class called the Little Tigers every Saturday morning at the local Recreation Center, and sometimes she fills in for her own instructor. Although Brittney will be attending the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, this fall, she plans to continue to study and teach Karate.
