In the middle of the middle, seventh grade is a time of exciting self-discovery. Students begin to make the transition from concrete thinking to abstract analysis, and, to a large degree, find their own voices in the process.
While our 7th grade themes reflect current global issues, they often incorporate lessons on democracy, genetics, resources, energy, international relations, and the power of persuasion. Guest speakers have included representatives of local businesses involved in green initiatives, designers of innovative practices, members of local government. Our work with the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences, Jubilee Hills Public School in India, and Carolyn Jones and the 100 People Project has proven beneficial in helping our students bridge the gap between ideas in a book and reality in our world.
